Poker or Lady Gaga’s Poker Face
Eventually mid-term exam is all over. A good thing about this is that now I can catch up with some sleeps or don’t feel any pressure when hanging out in the city with my uni’s mates. And a bad thing about this is that I will get to be a little bit slower than usual in terms of studying… Whatever, just chill out a bit and enjoy a few days of freedom first!
I bet a few of you have probably heard of the song Poker Face by Lady Gaga. It used to be one of my most played songs in the period of 2009-2010, and I still keep the habit of turning this song on every time I want to dance, either at home or in a party.
I wanna hold em’ like they do in Texas Plays
Fold em’ let em’ hit me raise it baby stay with me (I love it)
Love game intuition play the cards with Spades to start
And after he’s been hooked I’ll play the one that’s on his heart
…
Can’t read my, Can’t read my
No he can’t read-a my poker face (she’s got me like nobody)
Can’t read my, Can’t read my
No he can’t read-a my poker face (she’s got me like nobody)
But it happened to me (ridiculously) that I didn’t even know what is a poker game, though I had heard several times before that this game is the world’s most favourite gambling game. I tried to look for it and got to know it recently. Personally, I don’t find this game as addictive as other people claim, and I don’t have a strong feeling about it as well (or maybe I don’t know enough). At Trinity, my residential college, I have quite a few friends who are keen on playing poker, and we have some casino nights organized on campus during a year as well. Of course those casino thingy and gambling games are held for fun, we don’t use heaps of bucks on it.
For those of you who don’t know what is poker, here is a brief introduction that I took from Wikipedia:
In most modern poker games, the first round of betting begins with some form of forced bet by one of the players. In standard poker, each player is betting that the hand he has will be the highest ranked. The action then proceeds clockwise around the table and each player in turn must either match the maximum previous bet or fold, losing the amount bet so far and all further interest in the hand. A player who matches a bet may also “raise,” or increase the bet. The betting round ends when all players have either matched the last bet or folded. If all but one player fold on any round, then the remaining player collects the pot and may choose to show or conceal their hand. If more than one player remains in contention after the final betting round, the hands are revealed and the player with the winning hand takes the pot. With the exception of initial forced bets, money is only placed into the pot voluntarily by a player who, at least in theory, rationally believes the bet has positive expected value. Thus, while the outcome of any particular hand significantly involves chance, the long-run expectations of the players are determined by their actions chosen on the basis of probability, psychology and game theory.
You can try playing poker online (of course, you have to do some betting with real money) at this website: http://hu.partypoker.com/ . I haven’t checked it yet but the steps prior to playing should be the same to online shopping’s procedure: get your account registered, connect it with your bank account (via Visa, Mastercard or Paypal) and play. My recommendation is to spend your time and money wisely for entertainment purposes only, don’t get too addicted, it does you no good at all, friends.
Hopefully after reading this. you can now decide whether to dance on Lady Gaga’s Poker Face in your free time or get online for some real poker games, or both at the same time if you can. Let’s entertain yourself!
